App Review: GetGlue for Android

pinglio_getglue

Sticker hounds, beware of your newest addiction: GetGlue. Although I don’t claim to understand the name or the slogan ”Stick with Us,” I love this service. While it allows me to follow my tweeps and see what they’re doing, it also offers a completely open environment. Users can “check-in” to TV shows, movies, songs, podcasts, books, video games, and more and then converse about the happenings. YouTube Adds Snowfall Effect To Its Video Player

pinglio_youtubesnow

YouTube is adding some holiday cheer to their video player today. The company has enabled a snowflake icon right next to the annotation icon on the bottom bar of videos. Users can enable the snow effect to see snow fall from the top of the video, and watch it gather up on the bottom. Moving your mouse above the snowflakes pushes them around right before they hit the ground. Check out the video after the break. Continue reading →

By revamping its website Tuesday, Foursquare has made it easier to discover more places, tips and deals right from your big-screen device(s). Before this redesign I never felt compelled to visit Foursquare.com. For what? Their mobile app has everything one needs… feature-rich tools for checking in, viewing one’s stats, managing friends, exploring new venues, creating lists, etc. With this makeover, Foursquare now gives us a more visually-engaging experience and reason to visit their site on our desktops. Google+ Brand Pages Are Finally Here

pinglio_googleplus

After four months since its launch, Google+ has finally opened the gates for businesses and brands to create their own profiles on the social networking site. Although, that’s not to say it didn’t come without a fight. Prior to yesterday, Google+ only allowed actual people to create profiles and told businesses they’ll have to wait to create their own. Select businesses like Mashable and Ford were allowed to stay on the site while other profiles (including ours) were shut down and told to wait. But now the time has come for businesses to create their own Pages on Google+. Continue reading →

stories_twitter_hp

Twitter launched their first set of Twitter Stories Monday which will become a monthly portfolio of their best 140-character limit posts they have selected to remind us of the humanity behind Tweets that make the world smaller. In their first collection of stories, we learn about the first Tweet from space, a kidney disease patient who received an organ donation after tweeting sh*t, I need a kidney, and movie critic Roger Ebert who still delivers his keen insights to his followers through Twitter despite having lost his ability to speak. Twitter Quietly Rolls Out New Timeline Update

twitter_newbird_boxed_whiteonblue

It seems Twitter is quietly rolling out a much-needed update to its Timeline feature. The new Timeline allows users to click individual tweets to expand conversations, media, and RTs. Alternatively, when hovering over a tweet, an Open link appears and can be clicked to expanding the tweet. Once opened, a Close link appears to close the expanded tweet. I haven’t seen any official word on this from the official Twitter account or their blog, but a few users are reporting it. Continue reading →

Hyphos: A Social Network Dedicated to Bringing Like-Minded People Together

pinglio_hyphos

About a week ago I was contacted by some amazing people from Los Angeles, California about a project they’re working on called Hyphos. Their goal is to bring people together – physically and online – who have similar interests, and they’re creating a social networking website that does exactly that. While Hyphos has not officially launched yet, I’ve had a chance to interview their CEO, Alex Capecelatro, about the website and tried to dig up some more information about their project. Let’s find out how Hyphos is going to change the social networking market. Continue reading →
