My First Impressions Of Windows Phone 7 On The Samsung Focus

pinglio_samsungfocus

Although I’m an Android guy through and through, I find myself sitting here and thoroughly enjoying a Windows Phone 7 device. To make the matter even stranger, it’s an AT&T phone! So how did a Verizon-fearing Android lover like myself get caught up in this conundrum, and why am I staying in it for so long? I’m glad you asked. Continue reading →

Samsung and Google Reschedule Android Ice Cream Sandwich Event

icecreamsandwich-728-75

Invitations from Samsung and Google were sent out yesterday for their newly reschedule Android event. The event was set to take place this past Tuesday, but was rescheduled out of respect for the death of Apple founder, Steve Jobs. The companies aren’t outright saying if the next generation of the Android operating system, coined Ice Cream Sandwich, will be revealed, ut it’s more than likely considering the invitation features a picture of the Ice Cream Sandwich logo. Another perfect combination is just around the corner according to Samsung. In its latest teaser video, it looks like the company has revealed the next highly anticipated Google Nexus Android phone dubbed “Nexus Prime” by Android fans. The phone is rumored to have a 720p AMOLED screen, dual core processor, and the unreleased Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich. Judging solely on this video, this definitely looks like an Android phone that’s worth checking out. Continue reading →

galaxy-tab-7-plus

As if there weren’t enough variations of the Samsung Galaxy Tab lineup, Samsung has revamped their 7-inch Galaxy Tab tablet computer with a faster processor, more RAM, a higher megapixel camera, and much more. The tablet will run the latest version of Android with version 3.2 (Honeycomb), and you can expect to see it sometime this fall. There’s no word on a price yet, but, as a reminder, the original Galaxy Tab came at $829. Continue reading →

Apple vs The Industry: Who’s Copying Who? [Video]

pinglio_applevs

Apple and Samsung have a strange relationship when it comes to lawsuits and device design. Apple claims this. Samsung claims that. It’s a corporate game of he-said-she-said and both companies accuse the other of stealing design ideas. I wrote about it months ago and it seems the two are still at it. But is it really Samsung copying Apple (and vice versa), or is it Apple copying the entire technology industry? This video supports the later. Continue reading →

Samsung Droid Charge Review

pinglio_droidcharge

I am an HTC fan through and through (and through and through and through…). I like the look, feel, and functionality of the Sense UI and cannot fathom a permanent device without it. Even when I’ve rooted my devices and put CyanogeMod (in my opinion, one of the best ROMs out there, but I’ll get into that in another article), I’ve found myself flashing back to a ROM with Sense UI, even if there are a few bugs in that ROM. But recently I’ve discovered The Droid Charge which features Samsung’s homemade UI. In the past, I have had some interaction with the Samsung Android layout; my wife used a Fascinate for quite some time and I am constantly supporting friends’ Samsung devices. That being said, the Droid Charge by Samsung still took me by surprise. Continue reading →

Samsung Series 9 Notebook Review

pinglio_series9

Back in 2008 Apple launched its MacBook Air, and while it was missing some features (i.e. more then one USB port) it still changed the “thin, light” notebook market. Before 2008, thin and light meant slow and really expensive. While the Air wasn’t cheap it did bring “thin and light” notebooks into the “hmm it could happen” realm for most of us.

With smaller, faster chipsets, better batteries, and solid state drives, this category of notebooks seemed like a good alternative to the underpowered netbooks. Besides, the Dell Adamo XPS that was discontinued, Apple seem to be the only worth while member of this category. As of last month though that has changed thanks to Samsung has releasing its Series 9 notebook. Continue reading →

Last Week’s Roundup: Legal Edition

This Roundup is a bit behind schedule, but we’ll be discussing an unusual amount of legal issues from the tech industry that popped up last week. Monday started with George Hotz and Sony Corporation finally kissing and making up (kind of). Then Apple accused Samsung of copying their hardware and software design. Shortly after, Samsung counter sued Apple. Researchers discovered the iPhone keeps record of users’ location data. The next day it’s discovered that Android phones do the same – just more frequently. This week was just full of fun, potentially illegal activities, so let’s get started. Continue reading →

Galaxy Tab Jumps on Major US Cell Carriers

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab was first revealed back in the beginning of June. It’s come a long way since then. Yesterday Samsung announced that it’s Galaxy Tab was coming to the Big Four: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile. For all you Sprint customers, that 4G network your carrier boasts about will not be enabled on the Galaxy Tab. With no release date or price confirmed I’m growing a bit irritated with this teasing device. Continue reading →
