Google Launches Cube, a Google Maps HTML5 Game

Google Launches Cube, a Google Maps HTML5 Game

Google is always coming up with fun, quirky things to experiment with on the web. They recently showed off an 8-bit version of Google Maps during April Fool’s Day (which they’re big on), and an even more recent experiment with their search engine turning into a battle between O’s and search results while searching for “Zerg Rush” (it’s a StarCraft tactic). Google had another experiment up their sleeves this weekend when it showed off a new browser-based game called Cube. Continue reading →

App Review: Google Voice for Android

pinglio_googlevoiceandroid

A long-time favorite Android app of mine has been Google Voice. I jumped into Google Voice while it was still by invitation (be jealous), quite a while before my first smartphone. There are so many uses for Google Voice that I’ve lost count. I’ll go over my favorites that can be performed with the Android app in this article, but feel free to cover others in the comments if I’ve missed any. Also feel free to ask questions and I’ll do my best to answer them. Continue reading →

Google+ Brand Pages Are Finally Here

pinglio_googleplus

After four months since its launch, Google+ has finally opened the gates for businesses and brands to create their own profiles on the social networking site. Although, that’s not to say it didn’t come without a fight. Prior to yesterday, Google+ only allowed actual people to create profiles and told businesses they’ll have to wait to create their own. Select businesses like Mashable and Ford were allowed to stay on the site while other profiles (including ours) were shut down and told to wait. But now the time has come for businesses to create their own Pages on Google+. Continue reading →

Goodbye Preview, Gmail Gets Its New Look

control

It’s beginning to seem like today is “Gmail Day”. First the Gmail iPhone app rumor and now an update to Gmail’s interface. Back in July, the Gmail team gave users a sneak peak of their latest interface update for Gmail. Appropriately named Preview, users were able to choose the new theme in their Gmail theme settings. Today, the team pushed out an update to Preview and users can enable it right now. The new look contains a handful of new features and looks great. Let’s take a look. Continue reading →

Samsung and Google Reschedule Android Ice Cream Sandwich Event

icecreamsandwich-728-75

Invitations from Samsung and Google were sent out yesterday for their newly reschedule Android event. The event was set to take place this past Tuesday, but was rescheduled out of respect for the death of Apple founder, Steve Jobs. The companies aren’t outright saying if the next generation of the Android operating system, coined Ice Cream Sandwich, will be revealed, ut it’s more than likely considering the invitation features a picture of the Ice Cream Sandwich logo. Another perfect combination is just around the corner according to Samsung. In its latest teaser video, it looks like the company has revealed the next highly anticipated Google Nexus Android phone dubbed “Nexus Prime” by Android fans. The phone is rumored to have a 720p AMOLED screen, dual core processor, and the unreleased Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich. Judging solely on this video, this definitely looks like an Android phone that’s worth checking out. Continue reading →

Android Ice Cream Seen On eBay Shopper’s Nexus S

Ice Cream Sandwich

It appears one lucky eBay shopper was given an early preview of Google’s unreleased Ice Cream Sandwich operating system for Android phones. The eBayer bought what he thought was a brand new Google Nexus S phone running Gingerbread, but, instead, what he got was real treat… an Ice Cream Sandwich OS. The anonymous tipster contacted Engadget about the unusual happenings and also sent them a nice video demoing the new OS. Continue reading →

Friday Fun: 5 Great TED Talks About Technology

pinglio_tedtalks

Not all online videos are of cats playing keyboards or compilations of people getting hurt. There’s another side of the web where the intellectuals gather at conferences around the world to present any bit of knowledge that is “worth sharing”. Of course I’m talking about TED (Technology Entertainment and Design) conferences where leaders from different industries speak to exclusive TED members and videos of the conferences are later posted on the TED website. I’ve gathered 5 of my favorite TED talks about technology that I thought would be worth sharing. Continue reading →

Redux: Personalized Online Video Streaming

pinglio_redux

Let’s be honest with ourselves. Cable TV programming can be just plain boring sometimes. (Or all of the time. Or maybe you don’t even have Cable TV? If so, congrats and good for you!) With all of the reruns and similar TV shows, infomercials, commercials, telethons… I’m boring myself just typing about the lineups. New episodes are so few and far between that something is needed to bridge the gaps… Continue reading →

Google+ App For Android Finally Gets Resharing Feature In Its Latest Update

pinglio_google+update

Google sent out an update yesterday for its Google+ app for Android. One of my criticisms of the Google+ iPhone app was the inability to reshare others’ posts, a functionality similar to retweeting a tweet on Twitter. But that functionality has come in this latest update along with a handful of other fixes.
