App Review: TimePlay for iPhone

App Review: TimePlay for iPhone

Ahh, the movies! While people seem to be going to them less, they are still an experience like no other. But theaters are hurting and need your patronage. One way to get you into the theaters are the previews for movies that look so good you have to see them in the theater. Like most of us, I am not a fan of movie previews though. Even good ones are a part of a huge set that are so lengthy you tend to forget what movie you came to see. TimePlay is one theater chain’s way of getting you to be there for those previews by using fun to get you there early. Continue reading →

App Review: BitDefender for Android

App Review: BitDefender for Android

Never before had I been worried about my phone happening upon a virus. I had installed some antivirus apps on my Android phones in the past to test them out, but I was yet to put one on my Galaxy Nexus. But once a few friends with Android devices started coming to me with complaints of their phones acting up and asking for advice, I began to look into some protection for my Galaxy Nexus. I happened upon Lifehacker’s guide to the “Best and Worst AntiVirus Apps for Android” which helped to guide me in the right direction. Continue reading →

App Review: Scramble With Friends for iOS

App Review: Scramble With Friends for iOS

Looking for a game that’s so quick the boss won’t even register the lack of activity from you? Then look no further. With less than two minutes per turn, I bring you Scramble With Friends. Yes, once again our friends at Zynga have come up with an addictive game similar to Boggle that promises not to waste to much of your time, well… not large chunks at least. Continue reading →

App Review: Key Ring for Android

App Review: Key Ring for Android

A while back I was having a major issue: Fat Wallet Syndrome. It seemed to be associated with Heavy Front Pocket Syndrome as well. Before you start coming to me with your hands out though, let me assure you it wasn’t a bunch of cash in my wallet nor change in my pockets. The extra bulk was coming from full-size membership cards creating a nest in my back pocket and the miniature versions bogging down my keychain in my front pocket. Quoth the Eric, “Nevermore,” though… I found a solution. Continue reading →

App Review: Draw Something for iOS

App Review: Draw Something for iOS

As you may have seen in my other posts, I like playing games, and when it comes to my iPhone it usually involves games with a social aspect. It’s just more fun to play with your friends than a computer. While I still play Zynga’s Hanging With Friends and Texas Hold’em, my friends and family are always playing new games to keep us all from actually doing any work. One new game that I have been playing of late is Draw Something, the top paid and free app in Apple’s App Store from OMGPOP. It’s a simple concept where you draw something and your friends try to guess what it is. Continue reading →

App Review: Jetpack Joyride For iOS

App Review: Jetpack Joyride For iOS

Here’s a new game that will fit nicely into your iOS Games folder: Jetpack Joyride. If you’re a fan of Fruit Ninja or Age of Zombies, you’ll be happy to know that this addicting game was created by the same iOS game development company called HalfBrick. Not only is this game optimized for your iPad (no pixel stretching) and iPhone, HalfBrick also decided to change the price from $0.99 to free, but only for a limited time. Continue reading →

App Review: Google Voice for Android

pinglio_googlevoiceandroid

A long-time favorite Android app of mine has been Google Voice. I jumped into Google Voice while it was still by invitation (be jealous), quite a while before my first smartphone. There are so many uses for Google Voice that I’ve lost count. I’ll go over my favorites that can be performed with the Android app in this article, but feel free to cover others in the comments if I’ve missed any. Also feel free to ask questions and I’ll do my best to answer them. Continue reading →

App Review: GetGlue for Android

pinglio_getglue

Sticker hounds, beware of your newest addiction: GetGlue. Although I don’t claim to understand the name or the slogan ”Stick with Us,” I love this service. While it allows me to follow my tweeps and see what they’re doing, it also offers a completely open environment. Users can “check-in” to TV shows, movies, songs, podcasts, books, video games, and more and then converse about the happenings. Continue reading →

App Review: AirMusic for iPhone

pinglio_airmusic

Imagine you have rocking tunes that you want to share with you buddy, but (gasp!) all he has is a gaming system attached to his TV! What do you do? While the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 have support for playing music from Windows devices, they don’t share media well when it comes to iPhones.

Sure, there is iPod support, but if you try plugging in your iPhone it just doesn’t work as well. However, there are a few applications for iOS that will let you play music though your Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 straight from your iPhone. One option is an app I recently found called AirMusic from Plutinosoft. Continue reading →

App Review: Poker By Zynga For iOS and Facebook

pinglio_zyngapoker

Zynga’s Poker is one of the largest free to play online poker games in the world. While I will be focusing on the iPhone and Facebook applications of the game, Zynga has also ported it over to Android, Yahoo, and Google+. With apps and games like Hanging With Friends and Words With Friends, I thought it was time to look at one of their first games. Continue reading →
