We’re just two days away from Apple’s iPhone event, and I thought it’d be fun to gather up all the recent iPhone 5 rumors for reference now and later. I’ve included snippets from each article and a link to the original source to continue reading more about the story. We’ll see how these rumors stack up to the truth when Apple CEO Tim Cook reveals the highly anticipated device(s) Tuesday.
The iPhone 5 Design
German Website Designs Its Very Own iPhone 5 Prototype Based On Rumors And Leaks
Based on CAD designs, hardware components, several leaked hints, cases and recent, believable mockups we created a three-dimensional computer model. This virtual model was then used to build a very detailed, true prototype that you can hold in your own two hands. The process to create this prototype is the same that’s used to create the iPad. The back was machined from a sold block of aluminium, which was later treated with glass pearls to get the same slightly rough…

How the teardrop iPhone design wound up in the hands of every case maker in China
While we will “talk iPhone” next Tuesday, M.I.C. Gadget reveals that an iPhone 5 prototype had recently gone missing from the Shenzhen district. “This should explain why we are seeing a whole lot of iPhone 5 cases in China today, the publication concludes. Much like the widely publicized iPhone 4 prototype that had gone missing at a German beer bar in California, the missing handset was camouflaged in an iPhone 4-like case.

iPhone 4S with iPhone 4 design, dual-mode capability leaked by iTunes
Unless Apple still has the CDMA iPhone 4 as a placeholder image until the new iPhone is announced, we’re fairly confident that the iPhone 4S will pack the CDMA iPhone design. iTunes only holds two iPhone 4S references: black and white versus the four iPhone 4 references of black/GSM, black/CDMA, white/GSM, and white/CDMA. This may also confirm the rumors of the new iPhone being a dual-mode/CDMA + GSM handset.

Looks Like There Will Be a Cheaper iPhone 4, Made in Brazil
Most of these photos don’t look like anything special – just snapshots of a familiar face. But when you get to the last one, a picture of a Foxconn Brazil quality control form, you’ll notice something strange: a different model number, N90A. This has already been rumored to represent a cheaper version of the iPhone4. These particular phones won’t be hitting any shelves anytime soon though – they didn’t meet Apple’s manufacturing standards.

Ticonderoga: Aluminum iPhone 5 is happening, launch to ‘shatter’ sales records
We expect the iPhone 5 to get a makeover with a sleek, aluminum unibody enclosure that more closely resembles the MacBook Air than the iPhone 4, which will not only prove more aesthetically pleasing but also stronger, lighter and avoid the back-side “glass breaks” of last year,” White said. “With this new enclosure, we believe this will provide Apple with the opportunity to expand the display size by at least one half of an inch to 4 inches and hopefully bigger.”

The Specifications
Chinese carrier says Apple’s iPhone 5 will support 4G-like HSPA+
Included in the slide is a blank spot for Apple’s so-called “iPhone 5,” which the company will officially unveil at an event next Tuesday. No photo or details on the iPhone 5 are provided, except for a mention that it will access HSPA+ networks, which have theoretical maximum download speeds of 21Mbps. That compares to the 7.2Mbps maximum theoretical speed the WCDMA radio has provided in the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.

Next iPhone to likely come in 64GB, 32GB, and 16GB capacities
Following the news that Apple’s new iPhone N94 device has appeared in the Apple internal inventory system, we are now hearing that this new iPhone will come in three storage capacities. Given that we’ve also heard from manufacturing sources that Apple has at least been prototyping 64GB versions of the new iPhone, we would say it’s fairly likely that Apple’s new iPhone will come in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities; just like the iPad.

More Rumors: iPhone 5 Hardware Specs
Unlike the iPad 2, the new iPhone packs 1GB of RAM, according to a source familiar with the SOC’s manufacturing. That not only means better web browsing, but more importantly, new background tasks that Apple will introduce in the new iPhone’s software will perform much better. The new iPhone will also feature an upgraded camera system. In terms of hardware, the new camera is an 8 megapixel sensor that takes incredibly high-resolution and clear shots, even in low light conditions because it has a backlit sensor.

The When and Where
Apple’s iPhone 5 very likely to be released on October 14th, iOS 5 on the 12th
We have been told by a reliable source that you should expect to be able to line up and purchase your next iPhone on Friday, October 14th. We have been hearing the October 14th date for a while now but have just received additional confirmation. Several pieces of information appear to back this up. First, there have been reports that Apple is restricting vacation days on the weekend of the 14th, something that it commonly does for iPhone releases.

iPhone 4S / 5 appears in Apple’s inventory system, iPod touch may see price drops
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the new iPhone appearing in the inventory system is that the model number is similar to the one from a purported “iPhone 4S” packaging label we spotted yesterday on a Chinese forum. We quickly dismissed the label as fake due to its unknown origin, but it is now possibly real. The model number from the label is MD239 (a 16GB unit), while the model number for the “better” (likely 32GB unit) is MD234.

New iPhone 4 and iPod touch appear in Apple’s inventory system
As Apple’s October 4th event approaches, two of Apple’s announcements have been revealed in Apple’s internal inventory system. The first is a new iPod touch. Three new iPod touch models have appeared in the system with the codename N81A… Even more interesting are the two new iPhone SKUs that have showed up in the system. The catch is that these two SKUs are actually marked as tweaked iPhone 4s.

‘iPhone 5′ Silicone Sleeves Already Arriving at AT&T Retail Stores
We now have evidence that cases for the rumored iPhone 5 redesign have already begun arriving at AT&T retail stores, as one reader has sent us alleged photos of iPhone 5 silicone sleeves that appear to have arrived at his AT&T store today. Like other cases for the rumored redesign of the iPhone 5, these cases appear to show a tapered design and the mute switch moved to the opposite side of the device. Third-party cases continue to be essentially the only evidence…

Radio Shack inventory screen pegs iPhone 5 for Sprint
Could it be? Are the rumors true? If this screenshot, apparently culled from Radio Shack’s inventory system, is any indication, Sprint will indeed be among the carriers offering the iPhone 5. That lines up just right with previous reports from Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal, slating the phone to hit the Now Network in mid-October. There’s no indication of actual dates at this point, but if Sprint’s getting Apple’s next-gen iPhone…

Vodafone Germany listings detail 16GB, 32GB and 64GB iPhone 4S models
With less than 36 hours until Apple takes to its Cupertino stage and showcases its next-generation iPhone devices, Vodafone Germany has seemingly jumped the gun and started to add options to some of its iPhone accessory pages, detailing new iPhone 4S models and a new 8GB iPhone 4. Numerous reports have suggested that Apple will not debut the long-awaited teardrop-shaped iPhone 5 in October, instead unveiling a low-cost iPhone 4 model and new iPhone 4S models…

iPhone 5 may feature T-Mobile ’4G’ compatibility, still no T-Mobile availability
The “iPhone 5″ may or may not exist following Apple’s event on Tuesday, but if it does, it could end up being the biggest smack to the face that T-Mobile USA has ever had the pleasure of receiving from a smartphone vendor. Over the weekend, a Cincinnati Bell customer supposedly discovered a pair of placeholder entries for upcoming Apple smartphones. One listing mentioned the oft-rumored iPhone 4S and the second listed a $639.99 iPhone 5 with an 8-megapixel…

Rumor: Sprint Gets iPhone 5 Exclusivity From Apple
I have been going back and forth for weeks with one of my incredibly solid industry contacts on a piece of information that I couldn’t really process at first - information that is so unbelievable, even from a source this solid, that I couldn’t report it. With this new WSJ report on an Apple/Sprint deal, however, it doesn’t look so crazy. I have been told that Sprint will be getting the iPhone 5 - yes the real iPhone 5, not the iPhone 4S - as an exclusive. And it will be a 4G WiMAX device. AT&T and Verizon would launch the iPhone 4S and get the…
